Parenting Sunday School Class

Just a reminder to ALL who have kids — the Parenting Sunday School Class starts this Sunday, August 29th and will go from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. It will be a 12-week class and will meet in the back of the Fellowship Hall on the window side. Carolyn Beaty will be leading this class.

Logan Brooks Sings Special Music at 11:00 AM Service

We found out that Logan Brooks has another talent that we were unaware of. Not only does she have a lovely voice, but she also can play the piano. Thanks for blessing us with this beautiful song, Logan.

“Praise His Holy Name” by Chancel Choir

Here’s a clip of the Chancel Choir singing “Praise His Holy Name” in the 11:00 AM service. Notice that the choir had to memorize this song so that we could clap our hands along with the music. Easier said than done!

Bethesda’s Homecoming 2010

On Sunday, August 15, we at Bethesda had our annual homecoming celebration.  Thanks go out to the Laymen Quartet and the Chancel Choir for providing the music.  Our former youth pastor, David Walters, was welcomed back to give the sermon.  Finally, we enjoyed a terrific potluck lunch, thanks to the hospitality committee and everyone who brought the delicious food.

THANK YOU — Sunday School

A great big THANK YOU to everyone who came out for Sunday School Registration yesterday! It was a blessing to have all of God’s children in the chapel for a time of fellowship. We are excited to have this new method of registering everyone for Sunday School, and we look forward to this upcoming Sunday School year!

Laymen’s Quartet Sings

The Laymen’s Quartet blessed us with three songs at this year’s homecoming celebration.  Here are two of them, “Holy, Holy, Holy” and “Rise Up.”

Everyone loves “Heaven Medley,” right?  Especially when it is sung by our wonderful choir.  Here is this year’s rendition, sung on Homecoming Sunday with lots of former members joining in.

Estelle Lillian Skates, daughter of Eric and Laura Skates, was baptized on Sunday, August 8, 2010 at the 11:00 service. Welcome to our church family, Elle!

Special Speaker this Sunday at 8:45 and 11:00am

Joseph McBrayer will be preaching this Sunday,  Joseph is the Director of the Emory Wesley Fellowship, the United Methodist Campus Ministry at Emory University, and is staff with Glenn Memorial UMC as the Minister with Young Adults. Josephp andhis wife, Frances have been a part of the Glenn/Emory community for the past five years and live in Decatur, Ga.

Joseph is in the process of becoming a United Methodist Minister and has received a Master of Divinity at Candler School of Theology at Emory University.  Joseph holds a degree in Forestry from Auburn University and enjoys hiking/camping, soccer, frisbee, bike riding, Macintosh computers, photography, asking questions, playing guitar, and learning new things.

We hope that you will make a special effort to be here this Sunday to hear Joseph.  His Scripture is
Colossians 3:1-11 and the sermon title is  “Being Renewed in the Image Of God.”   Joseph will also be ministering in song.

Kayse Harshaw Wins 2010 Cleff Mays Award

At the June 27, 2010 11:00 AM Sunday service, Kayse Harshaw, our talented pianist, was named the recipient of the Cleff Mays Award.  The Cleff Mays Award recognizes outstanding musicianship in Bethesda United Methodist Church and is named in honor of Cleff Mays, our beloved organist.  Congratulations, Kayse!

Backpack Sunday!

 Sunday, August 8th, is Backpack Sunday!! Kids and Youth, bring your bookbags to church that day, and during the worship services, we’ll pray over them and you as you prepare to start the upcoming school year. You’ll get a special tag to keep on your bookbag all year long! Come and join us for this special day!

If you have used a nursery pager and have accidently not turned it in, please do so! Most of our nursery pagers are missing. Please hand them into the nursery A.S.A.P. Thanks!

VBS Volunteer Meeting — Sunday, June 13th

Calling all VBS volunteers! We will have a brief but very important meeting for ALL VBS volunteers THIS SUNDAY, June 13th. We’ll have 2 — one after the 8:45 service (in the chapel) and one after the 11:00 service (in the sanctuary). It is mandatory for all volunteers to be there! Thanks in advance for coming! Pentecost Spirit Rising

This past Sunday at Bethesda, we celebrated Pentecost, the birthday of the church.  In addition to lots of wonderful music, we also got to experience speaking in tongues, Bethesda style, with members reading the same scripture in many different languages.  The service was capped off by releasing red balloons into the the sky.  If you weren’t there, you missed something really special, but this short video captures some of the excitement.

Chancel Choir sings Bless the Lord My Soul

The Chancel Choir sang Bless the Lord My Soul at the 11 o’clock service this past Sunday.  What a wonderful performance.

Handbell Choir

The Handbell Choir performed two songs at the 11 o’clock service.  My Life is in You, Lord was played during the prelude, and Glorify Thy Name was the offertory.

Children’s Choir- Rise Up!

The 11 o’clock service was blessed this Sunday with the Children’s Choir singing Rise Up.  Many thanks to Brock and Katie for teaching the kids this song.  For those who missed it, here’s the video:

Children Singing in Church THIS SUNDAY

Don’t forget that this Sunday, May 23rd the children will be singing in the  11:00 service! We want YOU ALL to be there! Mr. Brock has been working hard with the children, and I’m excited to hear everyone. Please make every effort to be at church this Sunday!
