DID YOU KNOW?

We have two people from our church, Al and Bev Hombroek in Honduras this week, June 21 – 25 serving the people of this country.  They are with the Simpsonwood United Methodist Church.

Laura Miller and Taylor Brooks from our church will go with the Lawrenceville First UMC to Costa Rica on July 10th.  This Mission Team will be taking 100 copies of the Jesus Study Book Bible to that country.  If you would like to help Taylor and Laura with these books, $25 will buy two of them.  For more information contact Taylor (770-314-4207) or Laura (770-979-5075).  Please remember to pray for these two beginning July 10th.

John Whatley, Pastor

Online donation is now available

We have added a button on our website to make it easy to send your offering to Bethesda via the Internet.  You will find the donation button in the sidebar about halfway down the right column of every page on the website.  Our online payments are handled by PayPal.  If you already have a PayPal account, you can use it to pay your offering using this button.  If you don’t have a PayPal account, you can use a regular credit or debit card instead.  The church is charged a small fee from each payment made with a credit or debit card, so you may want to adjust your offering accordingly.  The fee works out to $0.85 for a $25 donation, $1.40 for a $50 donation and $2.50 for a $100 donation.

The payment process is fairly straightforward and should be familiar to you if you have done any online shopping.  Just in case, here are the steps to follow:

  1. Click on the ‘Donate’ button.  This will take you to the PayPal site.
  2. You will see a warning about secure and unsecure items.  The unsecure item is the banner image at the top of the page.  Click ‘Yes’ to see the banner or ‘No’ to leave the banner blank.
  3. Enter the amount you wish to donate, then click ‘Update Total’.
  4. Use your PayPal account, or click ‘Continue’ near the bottom of the page where it says, “Use your credit card or bank account.”
  5. Fill in your name, address, phone number and credit card information, then click ‘Review Donation and Continue’.
  6. If you wish to specify a designated fund for your offering, click “Add special instructions for the Merchant” and write the name of the fund you wish to donate to.
  7. Click the “Donate $XX.xx Now” button.
  8. Return to Bethesda’s website.  You will receive an e-mail confirming your donation.

That’s all there is to it.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Kevin (kevinmurphy {at} bethesdaunited(.)org)

A Few Words from the Website Administrator

Now that Bethesda’s new website has been running for a while, I thought I’d offer some thoughts on how we can all get the most out of it.  First, let me thank everyone who has contributed to the website so far.  We have had so many people add news items, pictures, videos and suggestions for things to put on the website, it’s really been amazing.  This brings me to my first point- Click here to continue reading

Welcome New Youth Minister Scotty Scoggins

We have been praying for weeks for a new youth minister and God has provided. Mr. Scott (Scotty) Scoggins has accepted the position of youth minister for Bethesda. He brings a lot of enthusiasm and experience to this position. Scotty has been a Christian for many years and has worked with many groups of youth and churches. He has been a youth sponsor and high-school Sunday school teacher and youth leader at every church. He has created and led a youth band (4 different groups as youth graduated). Scotty has led worship and plays many instruments. He is married to our own Shelly Scoggins, our Pre-School director. They have two children, Chelsea and Brandon. He has a BBA Degree from West Georgia College in Carrollton where he was in Campus Outreach. Scotty says, “I love God and I love people-especially young people. I’ve been called throughout my life to hang out with and provide guidance to teens and young adults. My past and current experiences have given me a perspective of compassion, empathy, and love for those truly seeking to be better today than they were yesterday with an eye for fulfilling their God-given purpose.”

Scotty will be proudly introduced this Sunday, January 3, in our church services.

Welcome Scott Scoggins

John

MMM what a wonderful breakfast!

Congratulations to Carolyn Beaty

Carolyn Beaty was named “Woman of the Year” by the UMW at the annual Mother-Daughter Banquet this past Thursday night.  Carolyn and her husband, Roy, have been members of Bethesda since April 1964.  Carolyn has served the church in many roles and is currently the Chairperson of the Preschool Committee.

Staff Gifts

thanks_6256c1_webThe SPRC would like to give you the opportunity to share in a love offering for our staff.  This is the time of year that we can give back to the staff for the time and talents that they give us throughout the year.  Please bring your offerings this Sunday, mark it “staff”, and drop it in the offering plate.

Still a Few Names on Angel Tree

angeltree_6155cThere are still a few names on the Angel Tree.  You can pick up a name and return the gift on Sunday.  If you already have a name why not go ahead and put it in your car and bring it Wednesday night!  Remember, they are to be unwrapped and the original tag placed on the gift.  You may leave them in the fellowship hall.  Sunday is the absolute deadline.  Thank you all in advance for supporting this project.

Thumbs up for Staff Appreciation

Thumbs Up for Our Staff

Bethesda turned out in force to show our staff how much we appreciate them.  There were plenty of laughs and lots of good food to go around at the staff appreciation luncheon, which was held on November 22nd.  Thanks to all of our hard working staff for all they do for us!

Thanks from Athel!

Thank you to everyone for the wonderful meal yesterday in honor of the Staff.  We have some fabulous cooks here at Bethesda.  Thank you to Cammie Jane and Frankie Anderson, Carole Martin and Felix, Wanda Davis, Barbara and Wayne Davis for decorating and setting up the meal and of course those who helped clean up.  I told someone today that this is my favorite Sunday of the whole year.  Athel

Staff Appreciation Luncheon

Each year at this time the SPRC, with the help of Family Ministries, sponsor a covered dish Staff Appreciation Luncheon.  This year it will be on Sunday, November 22nd, immediately following the 11:00 service.  Each family is asked to bring plenty of food so that there will be a good buffet for everyone to share.  Let’s show the staff how much we appreciate them by having a good attendance.
