Preschool

Founded in 1969, Bethesda United Methodist Church Preschool and Kindergarten enjoys an excellent reputation among parents and educators as a superior preschool for children ages two through five.

Our curriculum, called Playtasks, is based on the ideas of Maria Montessori and Jean Piaget, among others, and focuses on the way that children learn most effectively – through play.

This child-centered curriculum offers age-appropriate, “hands-on” experiences in a loving and caring Christian atmosphere. Each age group has its own set of learning skills and objectives and our individualized instruction allows children to mature and develop within their own time frame with positive, success oriented learning activities.

Our desire is to meet all needs of the developing child – intellectual, social and emotional, physical, and spiritual.

Education is further enhanced by weekly specials such as Music and Movement, Chapel day, visits to our Media Center, and Spanish for our four and five year old students.

Kindergarten

Our school offers one of the few half-day kindergarten programs in Gwinnett County. The kindergarten day begins at 8:45 and dismisses at 12:15. While we do follow Gwinnett County’s Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) guidelines, many parents find that our schedule is preferable to the 7 hour day of public school kindergartens.

Because each child brings to the classroom his own unique set of skills and abilities, our program allows the teacher to individualize instruction as needed, offering challenges as well as remediation.

In addition to the Playtasks curriculum, our kindergarten class uses Scholastic Phonics and Reading, Starfall Kindergarten, and the Math Their Way programs which makes it possible to cover all academic areas necessary for successful transition to first grade. Kindergarten students also enjoy lessons in Art, Social Studies, and Science.

The kindergarten year is concluded with a cap and gown ceremony to mark this milestone in your child’s life and to celebrate their achievement.

BUMC Preschool 40th Year Anniversary

Bethesda UMC Preschool and Kindergarten is celebrating their 40th Anniversary by raising money to send 40 flocks of chicks to needy families throughout the world through Heifer International.  This gift of livestock will bless the receiving family as well as others because they will in turn “pass on the gift” by giving some of their flock’s offspring to another family, so the blessing continues.  If you would like to make a donation, please see Shelley Scoggins.  One flock of chicks is $20, but gifts in any amount will be combined to buy as many flocks possible.  Thank You!

Trunk or Treat!

Fall Festival - Trunk-or-Treat - October 31st

Halloween is just around the corner, and I’m getting excited about our Fall Festival and Trunk or Treat!! It’s on Saturday, October 31st from 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. Unfortunately, I will more than likely not be there, as that is my due date, and Baby Nolen will hopefully have just come!

I am working on getting everything lined up, as Meredith Retter has graciously said she will head up the events for that day.

This is where YOU come in! We need people to volunteer for the Fall Festival portion of the night as well as the Trunk or Treat portion. YOU help make it successful! The fun and games will be from 6:00 P.M. – 7:30 P.M. and the Trunk or Treat will be from 7:30 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. That way, you can help out with the games and still be able to enter your trunk! If you would like to help out that day, please e-mail me back at katieatcheson {at} yahoo(.)com and let me know if you would like to help with the Fall Festival, the Trunk or Treat, or both.

Once we have enough volunteers in place, I will contact you to let you know what you’ll be doing that day to help.

(Just FYI, in case you have never helped out before: for the Fall Festival, a booth is set up and ready to go, you just man that booth as people come by to play that game. For the Trunk or Treat, you decorate the trunk of your car, and the kids go “Trick (Trunk) or Treating” in the parking lot from car to car!)

Thank you for willingness to serve!! :)

Blessings, Katie Atcheson
